Ember Floor Lamp

Began with an interest in the protective structures found beneath the surface of the sea, where porous shells negotiate the relationship between exposure and shelter. Rather than enclosing completely or revealing entirely, they regulate what passes through them, creating moments of both concealment and release.

Developed through casting and handcraft in Beirut, the piece evolved through repeated studies of form, aperture, and light. As the structure became more refined, light was treated as part of the object itself, filtered through the cast body rather than added to it. The pattern of openings became a way of shaping both illumination and shadow, allowing each to define the other.

The result is a floor lamp that balances density with permeability, where the solidity of the cast form is softened by the quiet movement of light through its surface. Like much of the collection, the work is less concerned with representing nature than with translating the conditions through which it is formed.
